Our Teachers

Lucy and Joop Brouwer are senior teachers with the Tai Chi Foundation who started teaching Tai Chi in 1986 and 1991 respectively. They founded The School of Tai Chi Chuan in St. Albans, Hertfordshire, in 1995, and in 2013 they moved to Lancaster. Over the years they have taught thousands of students and trained many of them to become Tai Chi teachers.

Our school's history

We are affiliated with the Tai Chi Foundation, a not for profit educational organisation promoting the teaching of Tai Chi worldwide.

Our lineage goes back to the Yang family and professor Cheng Man Ching, who brought Tai Chi to the West in the early 1970's. We have been taught by Patrick Watson, one of Cheng's senior students, and by Watson's senior students. We bring the essence of Tai Chi from it's ancient beginnings to the world today in Lancaster.

How we teach

Team teaching is a hallmark of our school. Our focus during the Tai Chi classes is to help students to relax and find inner balance. We respect everybody's starting point and ability. We see ourselves as friends guiding you on Tai Chi's ancient path to health and well-being.
